How difficult is it to maintain bamboo floors?

Cleaning and maintaining bamboo floors isn’t much different from hardwood or laminate flooring. The same basic principles apply, one of the most important ones being prevention!
Make sure you use rugs in doorways to minimise the dirt and grit carried onto the floor, and use pads under the furniture feet to prevent scratching and indentations. Care should be taken with spiked heels and animal claws.
On the positive side it is good to know that bamboo can actually be harder than hardwood, even though bamboo matures and hardens in a fraction of the time!
Dry mopping should be enough to clean the floor, but damp mopping can be used when necessary. Water spills should be mopped up without delay.
As with other types of flooring, steel wool or scourers should be avoided; waxes could damage the finish of your bamboo floors.
Manufacturers like Yanchi recommend that you avoid exposing the floors to direct sunlight for long periods of time. They also advise you to varnish the floors every couple of years to retain a glossy finish.
