Protecting Your Pergo Presto Floor And Preparing For Discontinued Pergo Flooring
Posted on September 19, 2008

Pergo Presto Laminate Flooring may be easy to maintain, but it will still thrive on some tender loving care. Proper cleaning and maintenance will ensure that your floor covering puts its best foot forward for years to come. Pergo offers a wealth of laminate flooring information, including cleaning instructions.
The latest glueless designs are so well engineered, that it takes a minimal amount of time to keep them in tip-top shape. Generally speaking, Pergo Presto Laminate Flooring requires little more than a dust mop, some careful light vacuuming, and from time to time a wash with a (very slightly!) damp mop. Never, ever give these floors a wet wash.
The manufacturer also has its own Pergo Laminate And Hard Surface Cleaner. The company stresses that your floors won’t take kindly to detergent-based cleaners, abrasives, wax-based floor products, or polish. You don’t want to dull the floor surface with layers of stubborn residue.
When it comes to protection, area rugs at all the entrances will help to collect gravel or dirt sticking to shoes before it can scratch your floors. Felt floor protectors can be used under chair or table legs. Ensure that chairs have rubber wheels. Don’t move heavy furniture without some protection on the floor.
If you do experience a problem with scratches or scuff marks on Pergo American Cottage or Presto Laminate Floors, you can touch it up with Pergo Finishing Putty. In severe cases, the beauty of laminate flooring is that a plank can be replaced if necessary.
Now, don’t wait until this happens and then expect to be able to purchase more planks that are identical to the ones you installed initially. You may be faced with a discontinued Pergo Flooring line or noticeable shade differences. Always buy some extra planks when you start out and find out how to store these safely. You may very well need them down the line.
You only have to visit a few home improvement forums online to discover what a dilemma discontinued Pergo Flooring can create if you don’t prepare for it in advance. With a bit of planning, this can be avoided.
When it comes to taking good care of your Pergo Presto Flooring, it is a good idea to check with your supplier or the manufacturer before using any cleaning products. A mistake here can cost you your warranty.

How Often Asphalt Sealcoating Is Done Determining The Number And Size Of Cracks?

Worried about widening cracks in asphalt and concrete? According to a report in the Home And Garden section of the New York Times, it is crucial to do maintenance work now, before winter arrives. You may have been wondering how often asphalt sealcoating should be done. The news story stresses that the sooner you take care of these summer chores, the better.
Where do all the cracks in asphalt come from? Well, unprotected asphalt and water are in a sense enemies. Water penetrates right into the surface underneath the driveway. This leads to movement in the stones or sand, which causes the asphalt to move in turn. Oxidation also adds to brittleness, which increases the likelihood of cracks.
So, how often should asphalt sealcoating be done? Don’t wait until you see cracks appearing. The maintenance work should be done every couple of years. If you already have cracks showing, there are ways to do repairs. These are detailed in the story above.
Sounds like the experts at the New York Times think it is time to give the asphalt sealcoating equipment suppliers a call…

How difficult is it to maintain bamboo floors?
Posted on August 6, 2007
Filed Under Flooring, Bamboo Flooring | Leave a Comment
Cleaning and maintaining bamboo floors isn’t much different from hardwood or laminate flooring. The same basic principles apply, one of the most important ones being prevention!
Make sure you use rugs in doorways to minimise the dirt and grit carried onto the floor, and use pads under the furniture feet to prevent scratching and indentations. Care should be taken with spiked heels and animal claws.
On the positive side it is good to know that bamboo can actually be harder than hardwood, even though bamboo matures and hardens in a fraction of the time!
Dry mopping should be enough to clean the floor, but damp mopping can be used when necessary. Water spills should be mopped up without delay.
As with other types of flooring, steel wool or scourers should be avoided; waxes could damage the finish of your bamboo floors.
Manufacturers like Yanchi recommend that you avoid exposing the floors to direct sunlight for long periods of time. They also advise you to varnish the floors every couple of years to retain a glossy finish.

On Which Surfaces Can Laminate Flooring Be Installed?

This is probably one of the first things you wonder when contemplating to install laminate flooring!
Well, according to Armstrong, Pergo and other major manufacturers you can go right ahead and install on just about any old surface: vinyl sheet flooring, linoleum, wood floors, wood underlayment, particleboard, ceramic tiles and concrete.
Armstrong even maintains that you can install over carpet (if it’s no more than 1/4″ thick). Well, judging by the sorry state of the carpets currently in some parts of my house, I’ll definitely be ripping them out even if it means extra work! There’s no way I’m going to install a beautiful laminate floor over that lot…
According to Pergo their laminate flooring is thin enough to fit right over the existing floor without your having to even change thresholds or doors. They also claim their flooring can be installed on floorheating.
Have you had any experience about this? Is it really as easy as the manufacturers say? Or are there - as is often the case with diy projects - hidden pitfalls or complexities?
Let’s hear from you - we’re listening!
