Cork Flooring

  • Cork trees are harvested evey 9 years
  • Harvesting cork doesn't kill the tree
  • Cork has a cellular structure of millions of air bubbles (about 40 million per cm2) which makes it soft underfoot, as well as a great insulator against temperature changes and noise
  • Cork has natural properties that are anti-allergenic, and the waxy substance called suberin found in cork makes it resistant to insects
  • Cork has a "shape memory" which enables it to regain its shape in many instances after indentation
  • Cork flooring is extremely durable. It has been used in a variety of public buildings - such as churches and libraries - for more than 100 years

Bamboo Flooring

  • Bamboo isn't a wood but a grass, but offers a great alternative to hardwood
  • Bamboo flooring hardness: bamboo, especially strand woven bamboo, can be harder than some real hardwoods
  • Eco friendly bamboo flooring: It takes just a few years for a bamboo plant to grow to maturity
  • Strand woven bamboo is formed by coating strips of bamboo in resin to form timbers. This form of bamboo flooring can be twice as hard as traditional bamboo flooring
  • In many instances bamboo is less expensive than traditional hardwoods

Linoleum Flooring

  • The cheapest 'green flooring', made of pine resins, sawdust, cork dust, limestone and a jute backing
  • Linoleum flooring patterns: this type of flooring is available in just about any design, pattern or color
  • It can generally withstand more traffic abuse than cork, and can be wet mopped
  • Linoleum gets harder and stronger with age
  • Natural linoleum flooring has non-allergenic qualities
